Inter-organizational product development, or open innovation, is a pervasive trend among industrial companies. In practice, however, only a few companies have succeeded in raping the full benefits of inter-organizational development. One important reason thereof, is the challenges associated with the creation of an efficient flow in an innovation process in which resources are located both upstream and downstream in the value chain. Furthermore there are few established routines for how companies work with inter-organizational product development. The research project is conducted in close collaboration with several companies with a clear ambition to help them identify criterions and models for how to manage their open innovation initiatives, as well as developing methods and tools for how to organize, manager, and follow-up these initiative.
